That's a canna and it might be easier to just divide the plant if you want more Just pull a chunk of the base off, as long as it has a new bud on it, it will grow as cannas are pretty hard to kill. The plants will die down over winter but come away again in the spring time.

If you want to experiment.let the seeds dry out on the plant as long as possible.then throw them under a tree somewhere and see what happens in the spring.you might be surprised.I love experimenting.

Be careful though, that particular one will come up everywhere - for years after scattering the seeds too. I don't think this one needs any special attention, you might need to pierce the seed shell if you want them to come up quickly though.

Thanks everyone - jag5 i shall give that a go. deathrockboy - I shall take note of your warning - we are on a lifestyle block and I have a part of land that the ride-on mower doesn't like so that is the area I want to try and cover up so i will be restricting the location zone.
