Hi All
I am looking to replace my old toilet with a new one.The old one is side vented. If I replace my toilet does it need to be vented, or is there some way around this.

Thanks

Yep, still needs to be vented. You can use an air admittance valve instead of the pipe.

you can vent it many other ways

If you have a wooden floor its a lot easier to do. Looks a lot better aswell & more options.
Concrete floors a lot harder.

Doesn't being within a certain distance of a main vent also suffice!
My original 1940s toilet wasn't separately vented but the main vent was right alongside.

Just ask your plumber. Under the Aussie codes you have more freedom with how you do venting. While under the NZ codes generally every fixture directly connected to a drain needed to be vented. Often those old vents can be disconnected, but the only way someone can tell for sure is by looking at how the pipes are laid out and what size they are.

Wastes had to be individually vented if the pipe run to the nearest other vent was greater than 12 feet.
Don't know what the requirement is today but you could google the plumbing regulations. Theywill tell you what the current code/requirements are.

Plumber told me our new onedidn't need a vent as there was one right outside in the drain. Within 1 metre I think he said. You can always use a valve if you do want some air , much tidier.
