Looking at putting one in to gently push the heat down in the winter. I only want low speed; is it possible to isolate speeds 2 & 3 so you dont have to go through high every time you turn the thing off.
Just off - 1 - off.
The wall switch with speed control you can get is bizarre, it goes in order - off, 3 - 2 - 1

'Push down' effect is in reverse direction. Best ask retailers.

Why not move the big ugly speed controller elsewhere and just have an off/on switch!

We have ceiling fans with lights we simply turn it off at the wall switch in the reverse direction i.e we do not have to cycle the entire 360deg to turn it off.
