You don't evn notice them.but what you do notice is a clear mirror and no water running down walls.and yes we have an extraction fan but the shower dome is wonderful esp in a new home .well worth the dosh !

I knew what you meant but the back corner can be reached with a long arm and a damp cloth. Does not get dirty, just bit dusty froom time to time.

Great things!

They are great, easy to clean but I still love my bath !

We have one ready to install but builder said to my husband today that he doesn't recommend them, too much steam when you are in the shower isn't good for you (wtf!)We are just going to hide it for a week or two and install when he's cleared out

THERE IS NOT ANY STEAM! That is the whole point of them.

I really don't think that's right, you don't see the visible condensing of water into a cloud of airborne droplets because it's not mixing with the colder air outside the shower.
With a shower dome making it warmer in the shower can only mean the air is actually able to carry even more moisture which you will be breathing in presumably along with any chemicals added to your water supply! Whether or not this causes any harm. who knows!

Our shower is built with an extractor fan above it and it has been brilliant. The bathroom is the size of a small bedroom and we don't use heating in it, mind you, we are in Auckland.

Totally agree and we have had them for 5 years. Best investment we ever made.

decided it was just one more thing to clean when we renovated and installed a in roof air duct to suck all the steam etc out and are very happy with our choice.i have heard the domes are very good tho

mansonprincess, Jan 31, 1:08am
whats worse - steam or mould! im pretty sure its mould - i have not had to clean mould since i got it, best thing ever - would not ever be without it and cant recommend it enough

Thanks for the info overall I'd say it's a resounding go ahead and get one.

They are the worst looking things ever, we had one in our house when we bought it and ripped it out when we did bathroom reno's and got a GOOD powered extractor fan (not a cheap Mitre10 one) straight above the shower. no longer ugly monstrosity and good air flow!

When we renovated our bathroom we but in a Manrose extractor above the shower (even has a built in light) & we end up with no steam in our bathroom. Apparently the trick is to have enough of a gap under your door to allowenough fresh air coming into the room to replace what is going out the extractor. In our case we installed a Clearlite Platinum corner shower which has gaps between the sides & the glass brace above the the shower & weren't sure how well the dome would work cos the shower couldn't be made airtight.

laura_lou27, Feb 23, 6:39pm
our shower is in an alcove behind the door, when we renovated I had to replace all the gib because the steam from the shower had cracked and bubbled all the paint on the walls.

I wasn't going to let my brand new, freshly painted walls get ruined and we had some fibrolite at our place tested and it has asbestos so we didn't really want to go cutting under the eaves to install a fan, so showerdome it was!

because the shower is an alcove you don't even notice the showerdome, and it works wonders, the mirror doesn't even steam up

They are NOT ugly. They are clear & you can see straight through them!Best thing we have installed in our new bathrooms.Showerdomes . wish I had installed them at the last house.Makes bathrooms nice & dry, warm in shower, no draughts from fan or open shower. No steam in the bathroom.Clear mirror.Easy to clean.Thumbs Up!

One thing I wonder, is how do you clean the top of them on the outside! Our shower is 1 metre square and 1.9m tall. Dust will eventually form on the top, so how hard is it to reach the far corner between the ceiling and the dome! Or do you need to take them off to clean!

Scroll back to my post I use a feather duster on an extendable pole. You only need dust it once in a while.Haven't found that the inside needs cleaning just the shower walls. But am sure if you couldn't reach use towel in base of shower & place a stool to stand on.Wipe with cleaner.

Thanks, we got tracks installed to fit one if we wanted when we redid the bathroom as the shower guy was pushing it hard and this was a way of shutting him up. I guess he thought we would be back to buy one soon, but because the bathroom has been designed with special ventilation in the skylight to remove steam without causing any draughts or loss of heat, we haven't found a need to put one on. Mirror doesn't fog and bathroom stays warm without any heating or extraction fans blowing air around. I guess the idea of them is more for retro-fit to an old bathroom than fit to a new build.
