Why is my toilet making a hissing sound at night?

emerald9, Jan 22, 3:45pm
Not sure what is causing this. Anyone know!

Cistern valve needs replacing or adjusting.Easy DIY in most cases, or call a plumber.

Some one has left a one eyed snake in there!

Sounds like the washer on the inlet needs replacing. not hard to do

trade4us2, Jan 22, 4:35pm
If you can't get a new inlet washer for less than a dollar, I make washers out of butynol that seem to last for ever.

kryptonite21, Jan 22, 5:36pm
I'm guessing it's possessed!

Well either that or what the others above have said.

kaddiew, Jan 22, 5:58pm
Or it could be like mine, and have a bumble bee nest in the wall behind the cistern!

Thanks for everyone's help. Yep, I thought it might be a snake and then I realized the only real live snakes we have in NZ are our politicians.

maclad, Jan 23, 3:21pm
LOL you funny too. Nice one.

caspar26, Jan 24, 7:49am
could be either inlet or outlet leaking. if you can see a trickle of water running into the pan while it is filling up then it is the outlet washer. best bet is to replace both washers. Bevan
