Plumber question - cistern leaking

flyingpencil, Mar 21, 9:54pm
I have an old Caroma high level cistern, and the pipe which runs down to the pan is leaking. I pulled it apart and felt the two washers which I thought it would be, but both felt OK. I screwed it back together and it is still leaking. Should I be able to FEEL if the washers are perished? If they are OK, would plumbers tape fix the problem?

Replacement washers are not much money so do that, check they are sitting right and that no grit is in the cistern.

Is it more than likely that the replacement of both washers would solve the problem do you think?

its worth a try. it'll be cheaper than getting a plumber

Yes the washers are cheap as, replace them, assemble with a little vaseline.

you could buy a brand new cistern and fit it your self if you are worried it is not rocket science even this would be cheaper than calling in a plumber.

I've replaced one washer and it looks like it might have worked. What is the vaseline for - for future reference?
