Gazebo ruined - any ideas how to fix it

melford, Jan 1, 2:23am
Bought a gazebo and put it up Christmas Day - very little wind, however, the "steel rods" on each corner have bent and it is now useless. Mitre 10 will not replace it as it was my fault we put it up on a slightly windy day and even though we put support strops in each corner.Does anyone know if it would be expensive to have it fixed as I am now left with out a framework to hold up the brand new canvas.

Did the instructions say it wasn't suitable for windy conditions! Also, what do you mean by slightly windy!

yes it did say not suitable for windy conditions. Slight breeze not absolutely still. I still thought that because the frame on the box stated "steel" that with the use of strops as well a slight breeze would be okay. Windy conditions to me is when there is a howling gale like a nor wester

If really steel can be heated & straightened . More Likely to be thin walled aluminium . I have1& all the alpoles are bent .

A slightly windy day can turn into a very strong short gust and bingo--- gazebo or brolly is a goner.

box it came in says "steel" but they don't feel like steel to me.

They will be as thin as paper and just as strong. Get some lengths of rebar and shove them up the guts of them. They wont bend easily then. Mine lasted like that until the canvas wore out.

Try the Ecodepot or recycling centres, I have seen gazebos in there suitable for spare parts.

buy some wooden dowel that will fit inside the tube and glue or screw it in.
A mate had one that some twit buggered up trying to fold it up the wrong way and one of the struts bent. it was oval cross section so dowel wouldn't fit so we used a strong solid nylon bar instead of wood. It still works three years later.

we use mcgyver tape, all of ours are held together with it, we have them up in howling gales, never had wind bend or break the thin as struts as others have said has been twits not erecting them or dismanteling them correctly. we were just discussing them today as the wind was wiping at the one on the deck, we have had that onr for about 8 years and it has heaps of tape on it.
