Can anyone tell me what you do to keep the birds from eating the fruit ? I have netting over my plants ,had quite a few just needed ripening and go out this morning and they have all gone ! Would it just be birds ,we do get a few hedgehogs ?

We have netting over loops so the birds can't eat the fruit through the netting.

we have a raised bed, with a frame and metal mesh in a semi circle, we are rural so heaps of birds ,Sparrows, black birds, thrushes. I would suggest some hoops made of plastic conduit (20mm from electrical wholesaler) and jam these in the ground and stretch that plastic bird netting over the frame, put bricks or stones around the edges.

I grow mine in a tunnel house.

I find that if you have plenty of water available to the birds they will leave all of my berry fruit alone, but as has been said snails and slugs love them as well.

No, I have found no need for protection from birds apart from my figs that the wax eyes find before me sometimes.

I bought some 10 cm wide holographic bird scare tape and suspended lengths of it on string across the centre of the strawberry patch, about 75 cm above the bed. The tape blows in the wind, and the holographic colours flash in the sun .I also have the bed covered with net, and so far no birds to be seen. I purchased the tape from Aliexpress, but it may be available in NZ.

I think I saw some holographic tape in Bunnings the other day when I was getting bird netting. Not sure how wide it was though. I wonder if that would work on the clothesline. The birds seem to regard my rotary line as their own personal roundabout lol, but not so amusing when they poo all over my clean washing!

Er no. We have water all over, for the cats. The birds drink it, also bathe in it. And eat my raspberries when cat isn't around. I've seen them. doing all 3.

Birds can out-smart netting, as I've found out this summer with my boysenberries, they will persist until they find a way to get the fruit, I've had to use plastic sheets to stop them.
