Automatic garage light

linkev, May 13, 8:08pm
We have automatic roller garage door that was installed for a camper van but ceiling height has now been reduced to standard height so the roller on top is now up above ceiling height. It hasn't got a light fitted up there.
What can I mount/attach to garage door so I have an internal light come on when I open door when I come home ?
Any suggestions will be appreciated as I/we cannot think of anything practical-wise.

I have a number of these in every room of the house, and garage, shed and carport(so never turn on main lights if just passing thru).
Most i have modified to use a 18650 lithium battery instead of the throw away ones(external cell holder).

These use 3x AAA, very bright but hardest on batteries.
https://www.bunnings.co.nz/lytworx-2-cob-led-motion-sensor-light_p0027447 and these use 3x AA - last very well, but less light. https://www.bunnings.co.nz/magic-living-8-led-sensor-nightlight-2pk_p4351041

Also have one similar to this in kitchen, mine used 4 x AA before modifying(2 x 18650 in parallel for long life)

Ps, i buy the bunnings bulk battery packs, for the ones that still use them.

I have several sensor lights. I have a bayonet socket one which is excellent.
I can't remember who I bought it off on TM.
308874460 is similar but is bayonet socket.

An LED security light would go on as soon as the roller door moved and offer a lot more light than a battery light. I've used the same thing (without the sensors) to light my garage.
A sparkie could use the power supply to the roller door to liven it.

Get a sparky to wire a timer up to the garage door motor, (may need a relay)
so the light comes on when door is operated and stays on for an adjustable time (say 5min) to allow you to get out of the car and inside the house.

All of the garage door motors I've owned had an internal 230 volt light under a plastic cover, sometimes the bulb has failed so you don't realise it's there. Perhaps check the bulb, it would be easily possible to make an extension lead with an edison fitting to allow the light to be placed on the wall or roof somewhere else.
