Looking into putting up a second hand garage is 6x8. Anyone in chch do garage foundations and all the council stuff? Or have advise about it as we have no clue how to start

Where are you located in chch?
If you are in TC2 or TC3 zone, you may need a geotech report ($$$) and an engineered foundation (more $$$).

I purchased a second hand garage off here for 500ish dollars 7x4 it has cost me nearly 15k to get all the permits foundations extra bracings ply etc

buy a shed package off a national chain. They do all the paperwork and know local laws and inspections. If you want to build it , buy a kitset?.but get their contractors to lay the concrete floor for you. That way everything is legal in location footing and square.
