Hot water flow

Ohh the cost of “ progress” not that long ago, if you wanted hot water you needed to light the wetback. And water came out of 2 taps ( 1 was cold and the other hot) and we had copper pipes too! A simple setup and any bugs gold killed as soon as you turned the tap on- introduce enamel lined hot water cylinders ( rated to only 72c and plastic water pipes that don’t like hot water either) all of a sudden we had to regulate the water Temperatur to make sure the water did not harm the hot water cylinder or cooked the water pipes! ( or killed us using it). and we have pressure problems too with all the valves attached too. Hail progress! 😂

So I’ve managed to increase the water temperature to a better level but would someone please point out which of the above posts tells me how to get a better flow of hot water to my sink.

1. Locate the new reducing valve and take careful note of where the adjuster is set.
2. Screw it in by exactly one turn.
3. Wait 5 mins and look at the overflow pipe sticking out of your roof. If there is no sign of water coming out of it, go back to step 2. If there is water coming out then back the adjuster out by one turn and go to step 4
4. At some point between steps 2 and 3, you'll find that the pressure in your hot tap is better.

Out of curiosity, what did the plumber do with your old valve? As you own it, he should not have removed it (called theft). I ask because many of them can be rebuilt for about $20 and 10 mins of effort.

Thank you, and he took the old valve away which annoys me as I thought I could have gotten familiar with the steps you have told,me here.

Turn clockwise? And turn power off for 15 mins prior?

So why did he replace the ajax valve?

mrcat1, Nov 9, 5:35am
If you want any recourse then you'd have to deal with this person, why don't you want them back?

mrcat1, Nov 9, 5:36am
That would depend on the age of the system.

What do you mean a "process" from long ago?
I've just lit my Marshall hot water heater for hot water for a shower.

The woman lost both her feet and many NZ hot water systems are currently wrong and need changing. You don't know what you are talking about.

"A deadly disease which cost a woman both her feet could be lurking in our hot water systems, despite official requirements designed to prevent it. the DHB's medical officer of health Nick Jones said the contamination had occurred "despite having the cylinder set at the recommended temperature".

No need to turn off power as you're not going anywhere near that side of things. Turn clockwise to increase pressure, anti-clockwise to reduce it.

I'd call that plumber and tell him to return YOUR valve and threaten to lay a complaint of theft with the Police if he doesn't. It belongs to you and it sounds like you didn't give your permission for him to remove it. Out of interest, is the one fitted a new one of could it be a reconditioned one?

What has an opinion of a medical practitioner got to do with the regs?

Your'se still talking BS - like I've now said twice - GO READ THE REGS.

wembley1, Nov 9, 11:34pm
Well, to be fair, the 'opinion' was based on "Subsequent investigations had revealed there was a tempering valve between the hot water cylinder and the tap, and that the bacteria had grown in this part of the system."

BUT legionella is a notifiable disease and thus all cases will be investigated. If there had been any further cases of this happening in the past five years, I'm sure something would have happened.

My reasonable belief is that the "Subsequent investigation" was in error and there is no hazard, for the reasons pointed out earlier.

I wonder whether trade4us2 is a Trump supporter?

tegretol, Nov 10, 1:57am
More likely a Jasinder one the way that he seems to be making claims about the regs based on "thoughts" or "feelings" or "I thinks". !

pauldw, Nov 10, 5:01am
Trump would say "Fake news" and do nothing.

Thermostatically controlled mixers are an alternative to a tempering valve.

Thank you for the nice clear instructions all sorted now😊

tegretol, Sep 12, 5:08am
No probs. And no charge either!
