We have just finished painting our bathroom but find that the paint is quite brittle and is easy to damage. On a cupboard door where it rubs against the side the paint just flakes off.
We used Dulux Wash&Wear +PLUS Kitchen&Bathroom Semi Gloss. It is the water based type.
The surface doesn't have the smooth, slippery feel that we were expecting.
Have we done something wrong and is there a way to fix things without starting again?

what was underneath, and what prep did you do?

A painted surface. Sanded and then cleaned with sugar soap.

No primer or undercoat ?

In this weather, it may have dried too quickly?
I had paint on a outside surface that was drying before I could finish applying
That area had to be scrapped off and started again in 12 months, where the rest lasted well.

No. We were told we just needed to give the existing paint a light sand. There was a small bit in a corner that was sanded back to bare wood and that was primed.
We wonder if the paints don't match in some way.

When we were painting one of us touched against a piece that had been painted some half hour earlier and paint came off on the clothing, so it seems that it wasn't drying to quickly.
The two coats were applied on consecutive days.
Maybe it needs longer to cure?

Start again. Water over oil based doesnt work. It flakes off. You would have had to sand the heck out of exsiting then used a special primer sealer such as zinsser, then water based undercoat, then top coat.

Sounds like incompatible surfaces.

we were told to allow around a month to fully cure (cures from inside out)

Thank you for the views.
We'll wait 'till the end of the month before deciding next steps.
