I have recently had fitted security screens in three bedrooms. They are made of a heavy duty metal - not the usual light-weight mesh. The windows open out from the top and the screens are hung from the top and secured with the usual little clips at the bottom. But because the screens are such heavy-duty it would be almost a demolition job to break in from outside.
Very happy with them and can now leave windows wide open whenever I want, especially in the main bedroom with these hot nights.

ulrich aluminum you can buy the bits and make yourself, you have to buy in their lengths thou.
