is there such a thing as paint that I can use on melamine walls in a bathroom?

i don’t know but I would have thought not. You might try zinsser paint range to check. You could maybe sand first to create something for the paint to stick to, under seal in zinsser paint and then put your normal paint over top?

I painted my laminate/melamine bathroom walls (and old 60's-70's kitchen tiles), there is a proper cleaner and undercoat you can buy for it, "White Knight tile and laminate undercoat" got it from Bunnings. Then used a suitable dulux top coat over this. Did these both 2-3 years ago and still look really good.

I used a Resene product for kitchen cupboard doors

"Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer
adhesion primer - exterior/interior - waterborne
Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer has been tailored to be a waterborne 'adhesive primer' over a series of surfaces usually considered difficult to coat or in need of expensive pre-treatment. Fast drying, easy application and wide compatibility with topcoats are added features of this product.

Typical uses: As a pre-treatment on aluminium, baked enamels, copper and its alloys, glass and ceramics, laminated surfaces, melamine, most glazed surfaces, old varnished surfaces."

I used this to paint over (don't be shocked) my Rimu, dated kitchen.
I couldn't afford to get a new kitchen & despite advice from friends & family I bit the bullet & just did it.
I followed the instructions implicitly & 5 years on I have only needed to 'touch up' small nicks, with a small artist brush.
It's made a hell of a difference, light wise & aesthetically & I now love my kitchen.

I've also successfully used Resene Smooth Surface Sealer, but on Rimu veneer doors. Just rolled it on with no preparation, as it was supposed to be temporary, but kept them as it looked so good even after 10+ years.

But we also partially renovated and reconfigured a bathroom at work 18 months ago, which had Hardieglaze wall linings. They were too cheap to replace the old linings, so a workmate tried painting directly onto them with a waterborne enamel. It adhered and still looks as good today.

Yup. Friend of mine painted an old melamine kitchen with paint, and gave the bench a "stainless steel" appearance. Several renters later I am thoroughly impressed as to how well its looking. She had a painter give her advice, and she uses Resene paints (always on special end of the year).

I painted an old green bench top using smooth surface sealer 5 years ago in the bathroom, looks brand new. i did sand it with 120 grit first tho, applied oil based undercoat and semi-gloss enamel top coat. all resene.

I had n old seratone bathroom spray painted some years ago. Done with a 2k automotive paint. What a mission and the guy that did it looked like he'd been out in the snow for a week.
Looked good afterwards though and never came off.

I've used it several times for refreshing old laminated kitchen benches.

Another good sealer paint in Bin Sealer. Helps paint adhere to the surface.

We used the Zinnser Bin 123 sealer, 2 coats and then used 2 coats of Dulux wash and wear and it has stood up very well around our shower walls.

Good on you samanya! I painted my 1990s rimu dresser a Resene colour called "carrara".It's a cream. Removed the wooden knob handles & put black ones on. Roughed up the edges to give it a vintage look. Still going strong! I initially used Bin Sealer as the first undercoat primer. It helps paint to stick to varnished timbers & prevents chipping. Also just used a water based top coat which I sprayed on (about 3 layers)

yep well done ^^^ B-I-N sealer is the way to go for painting over varnished doors, I tried Resene smooth surface sealer on a clients varnished doors as they had already bought the product. it done the job but definitely does not adhere as well as the B-I-N sealer.
