Shannon Lush, co-author of the Spotless book series, recommends cleaning windows and mirrors using equal parts of methylated spirits and water. You can also use equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.

I boughtr some microfibre cloths that don't need any cleaning product with them, just a damp cloth, followed by a dry one, and all the stains came off ours. It was lilke an oily film when viewed from a distance

I clean stains off glass with Cerium Oxide on a wet cloth. It's bad to breathe that in.

This is the No1 product for all glass stains on showers etc. quite expensive though and most shower "cleaning experts" use it.

When cleaning windows inside I get a bucket of hot water with a few drops of detergent and clean windows using a rag. Then scrunch up newspaper and rub over the window with that. Does an excellent job.

I had hard water stains on the outside of the windows which I removed using Bar Keepers Friend MORE Spray and Foam, purchased from Stevens. They have an online store as well.
http://restorex.co.nz/ I thought it was dear at the time but it worked and still have heaps left years later?
