I’m wanting to put in a ground level deck that will have 2 sides running next to a lawn area. Is there anything I should do to prevent long term damage to the deck from contact with soil? Thanks

Run a row of bricks or concrete blocks beside, that should give you a physical barrier enough to protect the deck

Heres one we built on a new build home for a client. Concrete path 200mm under with drainage into stormwater. H4 200x50 sides and NZ redwood decking screwed down with s/s bugle head batten screws. https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/794935584.jpg

Stevo2 looks awesome . Was thinking of conctreting in row of bricks but seeing yours would like to just run a piece of timber along grass border . What size timber did you use and I presume H4 would be the type to go for?

H4 200x50 border. Sawcuts to bend it. Top bevelled off to make it look like 25mm edging.

I wouldn't. I'd just pave the area.

Nice work ! Did you Metalex or otherwise sealed the end grain on the decking ?

The decking was NZ Redwood. I think we sealed it with a coat of clear Metallex but cant remember

Last longer and no maintenance.

Paving is good, but make solid concrete borders around the area so it won't slide sideways!
