The fact that all the previous models all had Ni-cad batterys. It was the battery that failed on the older models. This has an 18v Lithium battery & the drill literately "feels" good to handle. It's light weight but doesn't feel junky/ cheap. With the price on the bigger brands, I could probably buy 6 of these for the same cash & my hands & wrists will still thank me.

My oldest aeg is now 7 years old and has been great for diy stuff. I bought a rigid branded drill which is actually an aeg and thats been great too. Problem is that builders etc think that 18v drills should be hammered day after day drilling 25mm holes through wet timber

What about Milwaulkee ? The brushed versions are good buying at present, and 5 yr warranty 2 yr battery. As I understand it they have good reputation. Thoughts

It seems all the top brands have their fans. Just like all the popular car manufacturers. A lot of guys bought those kits about 5 years ago in our trade. Not so many using them now. Remember, most people like to recommend the product they bought to justify their decision. I'm no different

thats very true. i've like bosh. just sucks having to downgrade to the DIY version, but for the amount of use it will get, its pointless getting the commercial version.
What I love about Ryobi is all the accessories that run off the same charger and batteries. I replaced my last ones only when my old batteries refused to charge and I had to switch to the new battery pack. I have the line trimmer, hedge trimmer, torch and pole trimmer. For light domestic use they are great. My battery pack came with two sizes of battery, which is also useful. Whatever you are buying, check that you can reach round the battery to disengage it for charging. A friend with small hands bought one (not Ryobi) and couldn't get the battery off easily. Most frustrating!
