hi how long do you think it would take two guys to lay a 12m long x 6m wide hardwood deck having to predrill and screw etc? TIA

72 man hours or 2 men for 4 days. No allowance for border trims or fascia trims.

Agreed. Takes longer than you think.

Also depends if its a nice square deck or if these is raking cutting or angles etc. There is many construction labour constant books and software out there you can buy. Personally I find them all average, they all assume the job is flat, square, simple, etc. None allow for anything outside the box or even slightly architectural. I use labour constants then compare to previous jobs and experience. For instance that deck id allow 2 men, one week to deck it including borders etc.

I'm also assuming ex100 x 25 Balau decking. Use ex150 x 25 Kwila or similar and you'll do it a bit quicker.

make sure the ripple side is facing down!
people make the mistake of it facing upward and it gets rotten quicker with water retention.

Take your best time estimate, double it, then raise it to the next time unit.

Therefore a job initially estimated to take 2 days will in fact take 4 weeks.

I'd agree with that. I think two guys knocking it out in four days would be very fast. Five days seems more reasonable. but if there's off square picture framing involved then perhaps add another day

Rubbish. I did one for my parents house in the marlborough sounds (High rain fall) back in 1990 in baloo corrigated that is still good. I did one on my own home back in 2002( kwila six slot) that is still good. I am in the process of building at the moment and will have about 100 m2 of kwila deck and will have it smooth side up this time only because my sence of style has changed.
