I think the OP is referring to Convalaris major which is basically a ground cover plant and sends up lovely smelling flower stems in ?early spring? Seems it prefers cooler climates and that is why it becomes a problem in areas like Chch.

Sorry not to have answered before. Yes Maclad that is the one I am asking about. One time everybody had it growing in their gardens and I would love to have some.

I've got some in Nelson, I have even grown it in a pot and it flowers, doesn't spread much here. Surely someone in CC has it?

The botanical name is Convallaria majalis. See Wikipedia link for growing conditions. if you found a cooler spot you might be able to grow it. Never had much luck growing it in either HB or Wellington so not much experience of it taking over things - the contrary actually it seemed to be quite a 'shy' plant that had to have conditions just right.
just pulling heaps out at mine. welcome to any. north beach

I've got a lot of it here too but am in Invercargill otherwise you would be more than welcome. I also have the lily of the valley with the pink flowers which I keep in a couple of big pots so it doesn't get pulled out of the garden by mistake.
