I bought lots of test pots when my girls were about that age, put drop sheets down and let them paint pictures everywhere, they loved it, and can be painted over if no longer wanted. Looked really good for awhile.

ask what they like - colour and theme wise. what I have done is have white furniture, and then accessorized with colours that my girls love - turquoise, purple, pink and yellow. I have framed up photos and old t-shirts with prints that they love. they have a chair/beanbag and scatter cushions to lounge on. a funky lamp on their dressing table and a vase with fresh flowers from our garden and bits and pieces they've collected.
