Does any one know where i can buy some plants in Christchurch ? I could not find them in the plant nurseries. I want to put some in the vege garden to deter bugs.

Calendula are a winter grown annual, perhaps you should consider marigolds.

They grow very easily and quickly from seed.

Once you have them they are there as long as you want them, self sown and they are good for salads.

I grab come carnival seed from the Warehouse. They are easy to germinate & if you leave the flowers till past maturity they will set seed for the following year. Best grown from spring onwards.

I have them around the yard and garden all year in orange and yellow shades. They are fabulous to have! Easily removed from wherever you don't want them to have self-seeded. I also have them growing in my chook run for lovely colour and for the chooks to graze on. Just cover with a freezer basket or similar till established and the chooks then leave them alone (mostly!) Petals are pretty and nutritional in salads and Calendula muffins are always a big hit! If you can locate a gardener who has calendula I'm sure they will very willingly share some seeds for you to scatter. Happy to list seeds for you if you want some.
