Does anyone have a organic way of getting rid of these?

How do you know they are mites, not being facetious here but I find it a little unusual that mites favour these two plants. However they loathe being showered so lots of water paying particular to under leaf surfaces, bit hard with lettuce but frequent showers will deter them.

Its probably aphids, mine are covered this year. spray with pyrethrum

Yes much more likely and unless you know what to look for mites are hard to see, usually diagnosed by symptoms presenting on plants.
