I see there are a few threads here but can't see exactly our problem. Three days ago the hot water flow stopped/started/stopped but from tonight ~ zilch. We have a gas hot water cylinder. What could be wrong? Thanks

Probably failed tempering valve.

Thanks aredwood. Waiting for plumber now, will let you know whether you're on the money.

He was perplexed. Is coming back tomorrow.

Did he sort it? Other possibility is if the gas cylinder is a ridiculously old one that is fed by a header tank - could be an air lock.

has he fixed it then.

No. He twiddled and it came back on ~ but it had been doing that anyway. Off again since yesterday and I've been in touch again. ETA no aredwood it's not that old. Maybe 20 years?
