Are you talking an internal wall or external ?
Some walls are weight bearing and can't be removed without adding the necessary support in the form of a beam also probably you need a consent for a wall removal, so you should consult a professional builder for correct advice.

Yes, We had an internal wall removed (well half of it removed) and an external wall shifted outwards. The external wall shift was quite expensive as it required an engineers report and a steel beam to be inserted in the roof. Can't remember the cost as it was all part of a larger renovation.

We removed an internal wall in our house. The key is to determine whether or not it is a 'load bearing' wall. The one we knocked out wasnt so we did it ourselves, if it was we would've left it there or got the pros to do it.

We've had 2 internal walls knocked out, L shaped. One wasn't load bearing (did it outselves) and one was (got a professional). Both walls we put in a beam anyway. As for cost, the professional one was incorporated into the kitchen remodel so I really don't know. And the one we did ourselves (and did 19 years ago) cost more to clean up the fibrous plaster dust and dispose of the wall linings than it did to purchase the beam and bracing.
