Does anyone have any that have actually worked for a period of time ?

No. pretty disappointed with all the ones I bought last year. none of them lasted 12 months. However a (more expensive) set that I bought years ago - from Briscoes I think - have gone every night for 3 years!. The others were cheap (from Trade Me and off daily deals like Grab One) have been a waste of money really.

I don't mind paying more for ones that last but really want to make sure that they will last before I put them up - so I may look at Briscoes. Thanks.

I got some from the Warehouse which look like Xmas light but solar and have them in my garden room and have been going for 4 years, Even through winter they were going on and of. I paid $30.00 for them. They still have them so will be buying more. Also a white daisy lot which has been going over two years.I find warehouse ones good value and they also sell the batteries should you need them.

I've had no luck either. Had three lots from Mitre 10 last summer, 2 of them being replacements for the first lot that wouldn't go properly. Waste of money. Would love some more but too scared to buy them every time I see them.

I swear by the ones I got from Ezi buy. Now into my third year and only hassle is having them stolen from passers by.

At least I'm not alone with having no luck with them - but retailers shouldn't get away with selling all these duds!

We have lights all over the garden and the ones on one of our apple trees are 3 years old. The last lot I bought only lasted 3 nights.

The ones I bought from grab one only lasted a few weeks too. I've become rather cynical about anything off grab one. .

Where did you get your ones that have lasted from? Always good to know. Thanks

We got 3 or 4 lots from Bunnings and we use them outside all year round, have been brilliant for the last year, no problems, not expensive either.

We do the whole house at Christmas, plus have some in some trees all year. The best ones we have had we got from Briscoes - got the tree branch one - has 8 leaders off one. Bunnings have been the next best.

I really don't remember. One of the daily deal sites but not sure which one.

I really think it might be pot luck on how long they last. But the two I brought of here about three years ago are still going strong. The ones from Mitre 10 and Bunnings failed within 6 months. For my deck I have brought the plug in ones now.

Everything is made as cheap as possible. Think of the retail price and work back down the chain. I think a lot of the problems are breaks in the very thin wire they use. Any flex or stretch in the plastic results in a break in the wire. It is often copper plated aluminium to make it cheaper.

You've been lucky - ours from Bunnings have never lasted 2 weeks.

Run a bead of silicon around the edge of the solar panel to keep the rain out.

I bought one set of lights from bunnings that never worked. Another set which is about $35 from Mitre 10 is solar and worked for 2 years now.

I'm sure it's just 'pot luck' as I've bought them from various stores such as those mentioned above - some have lasted, others not. Now, I just buy from the Warehouse & if they don't work I keep exchanging them until I have some that DO work. So all good here. I do have some that have lasted 2 years, but can't remember where I got them.

Thats a good idea!

Just got my lights from EziBuy and they did have a note attached that the battery would not last longer than 18 months. So will keep you posted!
