Mr. T has built me a 4mtr long planter against the fence. I am planting 2 climbing roses in it and want suggestions for other plants to put in there. I would like perennials that flower and don't need too much attention. The planter gets good sun. Thanks

. thistle - I have just bought some gorgeous 'Ringo Salmon Pink' geraniums to go in front of my roses (I have a bed of 12 roses) - they would look lovely underplanted with your Compassion. Whatever you plant/ make sure they are not 'high' plants as roses don't like to share their 'turf'. Oh and my geraniums are alternated just with white alyssum - both very easy care plants!

Alssyum? Self seeds, smells nice, lasts ages.

Alyssum, lobelias - especially Cascading ones, violas. Garlic? it loves roses, and I'm told that it can help keep away aphids!

Fill the planters to keep the weeds down
I have plated peach Alstroemarias with my Graham Thomas + flag irises-(good foliage contrast) + Cherry Pie Heliotrope.
Have Aquilegias under other roses-though you do have to keep track of aphids
