I have one moderately sized cucumber which I've just picked for my daughter to eat. I don't like them. It is quite spiky. Seems like it would be unpleasant to eat without peeling. Also , there doesn't seem to be any flowers without baby cucs attached, does this mean no male flowers? the others haven't grown in the last week. Any advice?

Rub them off when young.
It is a bit early for full growth though.

Jazzer cucumbers have little spikes. Rub them off with a cloth. I think the supermarket cucumbers probably start off having spikes as well, that are rubbed off before they get shipped for sale.
