Is it going to be any good, purchased pre earthquake. Mostly 10 litre containers of resene water based paint

Give it a good stir with a flat stick, could well be OK. I have just used a can of Zinnser that I have had for 15 years,it was all good still.

I have lots of 10 litre water based paint given to me. I turn them upside down every year or so. I've never has a problem with the paint.

Thanks for your replies, have been turning the paint. Is worth buying a thingy that you put on the end off a drill to stir the paint, thanks

Yes but be very very careful to let the attachment slow right down to a complete stop before taking out of paint tin Ha!
I used combo of this and proper wooden paint stirrer.
Actually, second thought, unless you have one of the attachments for the drill i wouldn't buy one for one job. I would just spend ages and ages stirring and scooping stirring with the proper paint stirrer paddle.

I just used paint that was 10yrs old and it was ok. needed a good stir though.

old unusable paint has a real dodgy bad egg smell - you will know it instinctively - if it smells like paint all will be ok

How can someone safely dispose of old paint. Sensible suggestions please.

Some paint shops will take it off your hands, usually for free. Phone around a few.

Thanks - that sounds ideal.

Check your local tranfer station. At Wellington tip you can leave up to 20l of old paint at a time no charge.

Also, recycle shops may take it to on-sell. Or, if it's good, list it here for 50c and someone may buy it.
