whats the best tape to hold plaster in place from stopping it from falling from the wall

It is the plaster that holds itself to the wall. Gib recommends paper tape bedded in the plaster.

the house is 80yrs old we had the firepace taken out 4years go ecq came in and took it out and they put up board but on the sides the plaster is comeing away fast and as bad as so what im asking is what can i use to STOP the plaster from falling from the sides

Its probably old lath and plaster , hard to fix , best to do is to strip the whole lot off the wall and reline with new gib .
