Filling a trench.water pipes etc

goldgurl, Mar 26, 4:16am
We are having a sleepout built, with bathroom/toilet. A trench was dug for all the relevant pipes/water/electric. my question is, when they go to fill this trench back up are they supposed to fill it first with a good layer of scoring (or similar) or can they just fill it with dirt? Thanks :)

Crusher dust first. The wiring may need additional special treatment depending on how the electrician is installing the cable. The electrician will probably need to be there when it is filled.(actually SHOULD be there).

Thanks jono
*sigh* this is a pic of the area before it was filled. Electrician was not present.

What would be wrong with this picture of a common trench with services 600mm. deep.?.

Dis-agree . Electricians job is done after electrical trench is inspected. After that minimum cover is in place other services take over .

Depends if sparky used HD conduit or not?

Why would a trench need to be inspected? You mean drainage inspection?

I assume it is inspected to verify that cables etc are at a safe depth.

Inspected by who?

By whom.;-)

Electrical inspector, but now you mention it, most things are self inspected these days.

You are assuming an Electrician installed the cable , not the homeowner in which case an Electrical Inspector is needed?. The installing Electrician will have inspected the trench himself and will be responsible for his work. Normally a common trench is left open until other services are installed and then they become responsible for their work . They also may need an inspection before that level is back filled, then the next service is installed.
