Make new concrete look old?

macknife, May 12, 1:09pm
Our power supply has been laid underground. there are several 2 meter sections of cement coloured new concrete. Can this be coloured to match the old 23 year old main portion? A perfect match is not expected. ANY IDEAS PLEASE. Thanks

Isn't there some trick with yoghurt?

firefly001, May 12, 4:17pm
I thought that was for wood. ?

samanya, May 12, 4:57pm
I've not tried it, but I have heard/read about the yoghurt trick for 'aging'
terra cotta planters . would be worth a try.

Water blast it

mrfxit, May 12, 6:03pm
OR
Simply get it all pro washed by a house wash company.
Waterblasting often takes the very fine surface sand off leaving the concrete prone to more rubbish & leaves it feeling like rough sandpaper

Try etching with hydrochoric acid 10-1 with water,it eats at the cement content in the substrate, use a water blaster to wash off, water neutralises the acid

nothing will make it look aged like the origional, it will take time to weather in

So terracotta is fine to put yoghurt on? I have bought a terracotta figure for a Christmas pressie, probably won't age much in a month, but yogurt won't do anything detrimental to it? TIA

Should have got exposed aggregate. We had a new 45m driveway laid that we didnt want to be blinded by the glare of new cement. Looks awesome.

If you want it to look "old" spray with used diesel engine oil.

Whats it like to walk on is bear feet? Or to wash mud off after you have washed your car?

farmerjohn, Nov 28, 4:54pm
Why would you want a Bear to walk on it?

golfdiver, Nov 28, 5:36pm
Exposed gets mouldy far quicker

Oh great another bloody retired school teacher on the TMMB.

Its fine to walk on bare feet. You can get any number of aggregate sizes and colours. Cleans up ok with a hose or water blaster and can be sprayed with wet and forget or any other chemical you wish to clean it with.
