I pick mine when they are firm - if you can't push your fingernail into skin is a good sign.I have some huge ones, and don't think this very hot weather will do much for them - just cook them in their skins.Must pick a couple tomorrow, now you have reminded me.Find stems look dryer when ready, too.

Used to grow pumpkins for the markets in Hawks Bay. we used to wait for the vines to go down. They were easier tofind . At least you know they have grown as much as they could.
