Cold Water Running Brown - Now Clear - Is It Safe?

I had a leak in my hot water cupboard vent, coming from the roof.There was a huge hole in the corrugated iron.Plumber/roofer fixed it, i.e. new piece of iron and dektite.A couple of hours later I ran the cold water and it was really brown ??

Did he turn the water off then on again! If so then you prob have galvanized iron pipes that are rusting. The brown will be the rust coming off the inside of the pipes.

No, he said he didn't turn the water off.He didn't need to.Yes, I thought it might be that.But now that the water is running clear, would it be safe to drink!
