When the pest people came here, they said the roofspace had heaps off white-tails - not obvious to see but once they started spraying they were falling everywhere.

My dog just got a whitetail bite on Tuesday, was so swollen I rushed her to vet thinking it was a broken leg ! Swelling still hasn't gone downeven with antibiotics and steroids and she is miserable. So they affect dogs the same way :(

they kill cats apparently - obviously the venom is more tuned in for animals than humans.they must be 'prey'

Yes not nice things but live in WA or the likes, especially in the outbacks then you'll know spiders and other things.Really if you don't scare or try to hurt them they won't bite just for the sake of it.Don't get me wrong I have seen the results of white tail spider bite and a lass that had an operation afterwards, but she'd rolled on it at night in her bed.now chances are you roll on something at night it may well bit. Redback are as bad but hey only do it under threat. So do what ever needs to be done to your home but if they are just insdie catch in a jar and kill.I opened my wheelie bin one morning to pop in another bag and there was a huge huntsman spider I said good morning closed the lid and kept the bag for another week.Had a nest or redbacks on a fence didn't know they where redbacks until I pulled open the web, turned them into nice wee white fluffy thing with fly spray.I know it's not easy but the panic mode thing is the worse you can do, keep house clean inside and out rubbish and spider nest free, spary if it makes you feel better of bomb or what ever.I won't go down my snake stories :)

I have heard that the toxicity of the WTS bite is directly connected with what it has recently fed on. I dont know how true this is though. It would account for why some bites are worse than others

Yes, hilt_dwane, WTS eat Daddy-longl-egs and this is where the venom comes from.
My wife had a WTS bite that made her immobile and the hospital specialist wanted to amputate her leg!
100% pure essential oils (not found in any shop) cured her completely within 10 days!

eezy1, Feb 28, 11:18pm
that would be a good story except for the Fact that daddy long leg spiders are not poisonous in any way :)

eezy1 is totally right - daddylonglegs being 'the worlds most poisonous spider' was a joke/myth, whatever you want to call it. It's well proven and documented that the whitetail venom is NOT toxic to humans, the filth on their mandibles is.BACTERIAL INFECTION.sometimes it's sad to have to yell! lol
