If the plants were left in the bags before planting them out, then the plants dying has very little to do with the school.Im sure that amount of plants may have sat a while before planting therefore its probably that that stressed them.

Yes, agree with jillybean.It is unusual for dormant trees to die from them being dormant, and not leafing up in spring.It's much more likely cause by how it was cared for prior to being planted, when it was planted; how it was planted and how it was cared for after being put in the ground throughout its first year.Generally if you go to a reputable garden centre, they will advise you how to plant it, and how to care for it so that it doesn't die on you. If you just plopped in the ground and expected it to be fantastic . then it might be your doing!
