Use old (wool) carpet for weedmatting and old iron/wire bed bases make great climbing trellises. All available cheaply at your recycle centre.

For growing pumpkins i have a plastic container with a hole in the base and mix kitchen scraps and lawn clippings and plant the seeds right at the base of the container (not inside it) - feeds them and grows huge pumpkins.

When you do have tobuy veg at the supermarket, take home EVERYTHING. I see some people ripping off outer lettuce leaves , carrot tops etc, but I grab more than my share for the compost.
