Tomato problem.

It maybe something like fuscarium wilt. Whatever it is I think you may find it is soil borne and you cannot plant back into the same ground again unless you plant non susceptible crops. Not sure how long it lasts till you can plant tomatoes, potatoes or any solanaceous sp! crops in the future.

It has come from the soil/potting mix you have in the tubs. Its called Brown collar rot, cause by too much moisture in the mix.I would remove all plant matter and soil. Sterilise your pots with a mix of bleach and water and scrub well. You could also try sterilising your soil with Basimid Granules but that would mean the end of your tomatoes this season. (Basimid takes 6-8 weeks to work and wear off).

Thank you maclad and family007 for your replies.I have looked up both theseon the internet, sounds like both of them!Would the fungus have already been lurking in the compost or potting mix when I bought it!I'll definitely be sterilising the pots and will dispose of the potting mix.
