Buying concrete

trade4us2, Feb 1, 9:23pm
OK, so I need about 200 litres of concrete. Too small to have delivered, and it would have to be carried up steps anyway.
I could buy 20 bags of readymix for $200.
Or I could buy a bag of cement and some builder's mix very much cheaper.
So why do a whole lot of shops sell cement and not builder's mix!

Behind Mitre 10 Mega in Lunn Ave, down Marua (!) Rd there is a wee yards selling builders mix, cement the lot.Humour my ol dutch mate if he's still there and he'll look afterr you.

Is that Stone & Water World or A1 Landscape Services or something else!

Auckland Landscape Supplies in Merton Road seems to have everything that I want at a reasonable price.

Probably because shops don't have room to manuevre a large tipper truck that delivers the bulk product,or room for a storage bin,or a loader to handle the product. Unless you sell a good amount of the product it does'nt warrent the capital expenditure for these things.

Definately Marua Road, but I recall it had a building firms name attached to it, sorry, can't remember it but if I go past in the next day or so I'll post it here.

I've got a trailer and a concrete mixer. I could spend $200 on premix bags or $70 on builder's mix and cement.

Makes you laugh to think what people pay for concrete eh -

point 1 - a 20 kg bag is not 20 litres of concrete its more like 12-15 litres, check websites for specific gravity of concrete which is lower than water, or buy a bag and put it in a bucket - but for this argument let's go with 200

Point 2 - 1000 litres of ready mix is around $250 - that's equivalent to $50 for 200 litres and it's mixed and delivered! - allow for a small delivery charge or ask them to get in touch when they delivering in your neighborhood

Point 3 - any landscaping yard will sell builders mix - our local will sell me 150litres for around $20.00 add a bit of cement at $19/40kg bag and a bit of labour and your done

Good luck!

except that they are closed today. You'd think they would have an answerphone message to say they were closed.
No worries, I bought builders' mix cheaper at a place that was open.

$200 bucks,Thats about the price of a cube ex delivery charge. Find out what their minimum delivery of crete is and use what you need. dont use what you dont need, get them to take it away. In the Manawatu its 0.4 m3 plus delivery.
