Plumbing advice with a connector please

Hi all, have an old galv water pipe running under our lawn, and I want to cut it shorter to have another tap closer to the house. Question is, is there such a fitting that will "clamp" aroundthe galv water pipe tightly, and allow me to fit plastic water pipe to come out of the ground to attach tap etc! Obviously would be an "L"shape fitting with a thread etc to screw into, for the exiting new plastic pipe.
Years back the same pipe leaked about 30 metres further down, and I bought an expensive plastic fitting which clamped onto the galv pipe and stopped the water flow.Bought that at Plumbing world, now Plumbing world say they have never sold anything like that and have no plastic fittings to clamp onto the old galv pipe.weird.
So I'm stuck, any ideas,or names of fittings I could try!Standard galv water pipe, guessing it will be 25mm when I find it again. Cheers

Hire a threading machine

No, there isn't.

or use a couple Johnson couplings will still need 2 bits of pipe with a thread on each end to screw into what ever Tee you use. Plumbing World sell them

Use a maleJohnson coupler with a galv elbow

There is a connector called a "Riken" which clamps onto the galv pipe, and gives you a thread to screw a threaded plastic fitting to.
Mitre 10 might have them (our local one does).
You should be aware, too, that plumbing fittings are measured by the inside diameter of the pipe they fit to. If your pipe is 25mm OD, you want a 20mm fitting.

If it leaked years back (as mentioned by OP) because of corrosion - it could be time to just dig the whole thing up and replace it with alkythene (or leave it in the ground where it is but get it disconnected).
We had a problem here with a 30+ YO galv water pipe rusted and leaking, which was at risk of taking out a large retaining wall - just lucky it was spotted in time - as it would have done tens of thousand of dollars worth of damage.

Hi thanks for replies, the area I'm talking about is above ground where it goes into house, so isn't corroded at all luckily. The Johnson fittings are $90 each so I'll maybe even run some 13mm black tubing under the house instead, and connect to the existing tap with a double outlet.
Might look up the Riken connector too, just in case. Thanks again.

you are right you originally would have gotten a pvc pressure pipe coupling and yes they still sell them at plumbing world. looks pretty much the same as a riken coupler. what you will need is a marley metric transition coupler with the size of your galv pipe at one end and the thread of your choice on the other end. hope that helps

Replace the entire water line with PVC or alkathene piping any repairs to old galv piping will be short lived and not worth the effort.

Those are called 'galv rikens' and while good to get out of trouble, I wouldn't use them for a permanant repair or installation. I've fitted those, and excavated those and the speed of rust on them is just crazy. The price is up there too. My recommendation would be to spend the money on replacing the lateral from the toby to the house with 25mm OD MDPE and place the junction you want in that line when laying. This would be money well spent.

Cheers guys, this evening I dug up the galv "stop" connector I used years back to block the old pipe, and yep, bloody rusty, but not leaking (yet).I'll use a new galv connector again,as its going to be against the house above the ground, and I can paint it easily.
Need to pick my day to cut it carfeully as I'll have to turn the toby off all day.
Thanks for all replies and advice, much appreciated!
