Help wanted for what to do at back of lawn

cahira, Jan 1, 7:49am
We have just purchased a house and at the back of the section is a 6 foot high fence (house behind) with the lawn level but then because of our house land on a higher level it has a piece low by the fence then a rise onto our lawn. What can I do here as far as a garden, I cant fill it in and make it level as it would put too much weight onto the back fence.Retaining wall but still cant put too much soil due to weight and wouldnt see a low garden behind the retaining wall anyway.Any suggestion greatly appreciated.Hope this makes sense, have described it the best way I can.

A photo would really help.
Do you want vegies or plants!

Plants but they wouldn't be seen as the lawn is probably about 0.7 metres above the lower part. We move in another couple of weeks so will take a picture and post.

Could you sit planted pots down the gap, planted of course with foliage that will show above the lawn level

Plant pittosporums and other natives. Once established they will pretty much look after themselves.

I think potted plants is your best bet, like rainrain suggests - that wall and fence would have been built like that for a reason (drainage or something) and if you start digging holes and introducing plant roots you could have a problem later on.
Or just plant at the edge of the lawn and ignore the lower piece.
