Any waterproof tape will do. electrical insulation tape etc. Basically it's just to ensure that the granulaes don't get washed out in the rain. Also - might take about 10 days to show any effect - you'll know it's worked whenb the greenery starts wilting.

Great thanks for reply. The container would do quite a few branches I would imagine

I used to maintain a 10acre block that was 60/40 gorse/ grass so had time to play with various sprays. Got it down to about 20/80 gorse/ grass after a few years & that was "old man" gorse tree's

My ivy is over 20 years old & has invaded the trees & shrubs around it. It was initially grown over a wooden fence which has now given way - well the ivy was holding the fence up! Some of the base trunks of the ivy would be 7-8 cm in diameter. I've hit it with Roundup, but it's hasn't wiped it out that much. Too make matters worse, the birds eat the berries over the summer & lo & behold you have all these baby ivy's popping up everywhere!

Really? metsulfuron has a long life span in the soil and will kill everything! grass and all, nothing will grow in that soil until it ether gets very heavy rain or dissipates with time.
As a registered chemical applicator I would not be recommending it for use in (look) sensitive areas such as life style blocks as it is very slow to kill and it will kill grass wheres brush killers might knock grass but wont kill it.
now on to the OP question Glyphsate will probably work on ivy if it is ankle high but anything more I would be using a brushkiller and or metsulfuron as well as a penetrant. ivy is much like gorse, if you dont totally cover the whole plant it wont die, in fact if you keep giving it small doses bit by bit your more likely to have the plant get resistant to the chemical, best to do it once and do it properly. you should probably get a professional in as they have gear that will get the spray deep into it and also able to use stronger chemicals than you can buy off the shelf at your plant shop. And they will kill it!

This worked 100%. "I used mitre10's number 8 weed killer, very cheap. I used it at double strength. i added in amitrole at double strength. Sprayed the whole plant and cut it off at ground level and sprayed the stump. Problem solved.

Hi. Just wanted to let you know that I applied it about 10 days ago now and things are starting to dye of. So Wrapt. Thanks again. Will go and tackle the rest of the neighbours forest.Wish I could do something about her awful large elderberry tree. Drives me crazy as all the birds eat the berries and leave there calling cards all over my white work car,,just about have to clean it every day.

Yep it's the only stuff that will permanently kill woody things in my experience. If the roots are reaonably exposed to the sky, bury the granules just under the soil over the root area and let the wet stuff wash them in. Takes longer but more subtle! By the way, I don't work for the producer of Tordon 2G!

Depends if you do super concentrations of the stuff in the hot sun. Used that range of products (various brands) for nearly 8 years & never had it kill grass outright unless it was a high concentration AND a hot day.
Never ever bothered the stock either & that was confirmed many times by our local home kill butcher & local vet. We also had a very tight window between spraying & the need for the grass so couldn't afford to have dead grass all over the place.
THEN . you go on to recommend the same stuff . LOL, make up your mind.

Don't laugh ! But just ordinary SALT is all I use !
Has killed my ivy, and all my other weeds, never to return. Honestly. I can't guarantee that it doesn't destroy all the nutrients in the soil, but I don't care, it's killed all the ivy that was in my son's section, never to return !

Do you hold a "Safe Chemical Handlers Certificate" to be dealing with such toxic and dangerous stuff?

HA HA ! I told you not to laugh, but it works, just throw it on, close to the soil at base of roots. and good luck !
