I glued up this length of pipe but now realise once glued in place I would not be able to tighten or undo the tap fitting. If there was a leak I would not be able to fix it. What would a plumber do in this situation?

Start again with threaded fittings either side of the tap

If it will be easily accessible put it in as is, once you have tightened things up.
If you need to replace the tap at any stage you can just cut the pipe and put in a union or barrel joiner

This. There is ample pipe to be able to add in a union in the future . if it's ever needed. Ball valves seem to last forever if not used frequently.

or some fitting called a "mac union"
