Carport

A neighbour has built a carport at the end of our driveway which we share with one other. not him. He wants to make a hole in the fence to put the downpipe through so it drains into a drain on our driveway. Can we just say 'no' or is it permissible for him to do this?
Your thoughts , please.

I have had this issue ,its not legal and you could block it off anytime

Thank you. Would he need Council consent to do this?

Just a thought, Is it a big problem for you?

Not so much a problem, unless ithe drain blocked and then who is responsible, remembering it will be on our side. Also, it will be an eyesore, considering it's a long powder coated iron fence.

The property owner can move on and the next one could pipe all sorts of things into the drain, like emptying pools, fishponds, overflows from garden. Its you and the other driveway users responsibility to clear blockages.

Thanks all for your feedback. Interesting! It does make things a bit clearer.

Check with your council. I think you will find it is illegal to drain water onto your neighbours property.

yes, i know of a law suit over it.
neighbor diverted a drain over to the neighbors and it caused failure of their retaining wall. $$$$
