Neighbours Garden water storage tank.

Neighbour has just installed a very large storage tank, I notice he has set it up so when it's full it overflows all the excess water towards our property via a downpipe.
Would this be normal or should it be hooked into the stormwater!.

Ask him politely why you're going to get the overflow, then write to the Council.

I don't think anyone is allowed to "concentrate the water" so it flows into a neighbours place.

That's not good.We put in a couple of tanks last year, it was easy to divert overflow into the drain.

Thanks pretty much our thoughts so will have a chat with him next time I see him.

Where did the rainwater go before the tank was installed! There are some parts of Auckland that don't have a piped stormwater system. Normally areas like Mt Eden that have volcanic soils. I have seen plenty of houses with no functioning stormwater system. There will be alot more tanks being installed due to the increases in council water charges.

He has just plumbed into the house spouting and once the tank in full the rest heads our direction via an open downpipe on the tank.
I only noticed in the heavy rain yesterday that he had a river coming from his property, most of the run off heads down our driveway to the road luckily.

You cannot divert stormwater (or any waste, etc) from one property to another without consent, which is what is happening here. It should be diverted into that properties stormwater. Depending on how you get on with your neighbour, ask him to correct it or refer the matter to the local council.

you still pay a water charge when you have your own water tanks. on the basis that the water will be going through the sewerage plant.depends where you live.no free water
