Frost in Northland

sue164, May 1, 2:17pm
I have invested in frost cloth.
Do I cover the whole garden? or just the plants that will get damaged

maclad, May 1, 2:21pm
You get frost in Northland? Just cover susceptible plants.

And only when a frost is expected, not all winter. I know here in Whangarei we dont get many frosts. maybe 4-5 a winter.

Frost? Why? What plants are you worried about? It's only certain things that don't like it, tomatoes, potatoes. and you don't grow them over winter.

I think you have forgotten Lemons.

This is a flower garden I am concerned about.

You won't see a frost for ages yet, if at all. I had one last year and that was in August. I'm in Wellsford.

We had one 2 or 3 weeks ago in Tauranga and it was a goodie.

starseeker, May 3, 2:11pm
Lots of flowering plants are susceptible to heavy frosts

sue164, May 4, 12:16pm
Yes and Bromiliade (?)sp type things

sue164, May 15, 5:31am
And when is the best time to cover plants that can get damaged by frost please?

lythande1, May 15, 7:03am
I have lemons. I am in Auckland. Northland is warmer,. I sure haven't forgotten.

I only cover mine overnight when I think there will be a frost, then remove the cloths in the morning . I have some frost-tender things in pots & these I group together so that coverage is easy
