Westinghouse oven yet again

Previous post about our oven is now fixed with a new controller. For the mean time, lets see how long this one lasts. It is now the turn of the left rear element. Pulled it out and it is burnt out. Replaced it with a new one. Turned it on but will only go full blast. When you turn it off the little pilot light does not stay on to indicate that the element is still hot. Fitted a new controller. No difference, element still just stays on full blast now matter where the knob is set and the pilot light still does not stay on after the element is turned off, only goes when the element is turned on. Any ideas pleaseeeeeee

Sounds like you mixed up the pilot and load wires - compare the wiring of the other simmerstats. Individual pilot should turn off when corresponding element off.

Can't understand what you are talking about. Are you asking about a free standing stove with 4 elements on top (but they don't have pilot lights that stay on to indicate element is still hot) or are you referring to a ceramic bench top hob? ( but those elements don't just pull out) Better explanation and details and I may be able to help as I am an appliance repairer.

The back left ceramic element burnt out. I know it burnt out because I took the top off, took the element out and the element had 2 breaches in the element proper. Purchased a replacement from the authorised parts agent and put it in. It was a straight forward replacement. When power was turned back on and I turned on the element via the knob on the front of the oven, the element went straight to full on and stayed there. I turned it off after a few minutes and noticed that the light in the top of the stove did not stay on. It usually does even if the element has only been going for long enough for the plate to get hot to the touch. Went and purchased a new controller, no change. As woodhouse said, I may have mixed up the load and pilot wires. Is there any way to check without burning thing out. I have not been able to find a colour coded wiring diagram to make it simple.

Ok you mentioned the hot element light was not staying on even before you changed the simmerstat control switch, so the problem is on the element wiring. You have probably got a wire in wrong place. Suggest you compare the wiring on that element with the wiring on the other 3 elements. Trace each wire back to the simmerstat if you have to but you should be able to tell by the wiring colour .

How about calling an electrician, some one who knows what they are doing?
