Shacklock oven fault

helen131, Jun 15, 10:06pm
Hi, we have an older style shacklock oven and the two elements on the right hand side are a problem. When we turn them on to No. 1 the slow heat option they go straight to No. 5 which is the highest heat. Can anyone give me some advice? Many Thanks for reading and commenting. Helen

The simmerstats will be faulty.

They will need replacing. If you are at all handy you can do it otherwise get a sparky to do it.

Inspect the associated elements carefully for any signs of damage or 'splatting' to the metal spiral, both top and bottom, before replacing the simmerstats and switching on.
It's not unknown for elements to develop an internal short circuit and arc right through the tubing, making a small hole with splattered metal around it.
When this happens, it can weld the simmerstat contacts together to be full ON.
When it arcs and blows out the molten metal, it can clear the short circuit and the element superficially appears to be OK, especially if the hole is underneath.
