Thanks that clarifies things, ours is just connected to a 9kg bottle which is stored outside with the correct installation done by a certified gas fitter but since then the regulations have been changed (updated) according to all the regulations I have read today.

Is it worth the risk of being denied insurance? If your self installed gas appliance caused an explosion, you would be denied insurance. All insurance policies require you to abide by all Acts, Regulations and Bylaws. How would you feel if your house blew up, you still owed money on your mortgage and your insurer wouldn't pay up. It would be difficult fir most people to pay rent and mortgage long term

The rules haven't changed all that much.

Prior to 2010 a home owner could work on a 9kg LPG system but the definition was tightened up then, requiring a gasfitter. (It still had to comply with the gas codes before then nevertheless).

From July 2013 the rules tightened on what must be certified by the gasfitter to basically cover everything including the like for like appliance replacement.
