STARTING OVER WITH A NEW LAWN

freesia, Feb 15, 11:19pm
I live in Nelson. My lawn has a lot of paspalum and I would really like to kill the whole lawn off and start again. I need some advice on how to do this and what sort of seed to resow with. I know that autumn is a good time to do it and so I think I need to get cracking. Any help appreciated. including (being cheeky here!) someone in Nelson who I could pay to help me with it.

Yes, good point. Get rid of the bumps.

Go to or phone a farm supply store, such as RD1 get the name of their seed merchant rep and get some advice. I have a feeling, but not sure, that paspalum seed is viable in the ground for a couple of years. So might need a an intensive treatment

Yes, I agree you will have problems with paspalum germinating for a few years and as there is nothing available to kill it, without killing your grasses, you will have to dig it out by hand, (with a knife) when it first appears. As to what seed to sow I have no idea what grows in Nelson so go to your local agent and sound them out. Maybe something with clover in it, maybe a fine lawn. The choice is yours and you need to do the research so that what you decide on is suitable and what you want.
