Yeap we ripped up rotten kiwila from extensive decking area, it was thin and rotten and some idiot had painted it navy blue. Put down pine decking, groove up for us. Stained it. Very nice.

I have just after 25 years had to replace some few pieces of rotted kwila. The bits were where a large planter had been and leaked and on the very edges where plants were creeping up on deck. Then had the whole deck cleaned and restained and it looks just great.

Another problem with Kwila is that makes vicious splinters. One thing it is great for is as rubbing strips on the side and bottom of boats. Bending it was not easy but it is as hard as hell and will take a knock like nothing else.

Put pine decking down about 4 years ago. It sits in a lot of sun during summer. Have protected it properly using both sikkens and more recently something cheaper from the big sheds. Put down with nails, not screws. It's useable but shrinks a fair bit in summer and swells up in winter which pops the nails that need hammered back down. Cups a bit as well during this until it's into full summer at which point it's stable. Also seeing some splitting of the boards. I'm presuming it's because it's pine. Plan to put down a hardwood or one of the composite materials in a year or two. Price difference at the time between pine and kwila was quite considerable
